This article addresses the differences between Hamann’s thought and the ideas of the German Enlightenment. We will particularly mention the criticisms of Kant about
the notion of pure reason and especially about the concepts of freedom, emancipation and uses of reason. The purpose is to observe the importance of such questions considering that Hamann himself was part of the movement, but at the same time managed to be a critic of his time and of the ideas of his contemporaries.
