Democracy — France — Old regime — Political culture — Revolution — United StatesAbstract
The text contains a short biographical sketch and an abstract of the two main works of Tocqueville: Democracy in America and The Old Regime and the Revolution. Tocqueville was a pioneer as he established the solid foundations of what now is called the political culture. He combined a wide and systematic gathering of documental data with a critical treatment of themselves. With this procedure Tocqueville was able to formulate a sceptical and differentiated opinion about democracy and the revolutionary attempts of his time.
