AbstractIt has been found in recent publications, the reiteration of an interpretation which has the intent to argue in favor of the Holy Spirit as a Divine Person relating the Greek term for “spirit” (pneu/ma), a neuter noun, with a masculine demonstrative pronoun “that” (evkei/noj), in their combined appearance in some passages of the Gospel of John (14:26; 15:26 y 16:7, 8, 13, 14). The interpretation assumes that (1) John performed an intentional grammatical error relating a neuter noun with a masculine pronoun, and (2) therefore John would theologically consider the Holy Spirit as a personal being. The present article tries to verify if such explanations are pertinent by making a grammatical and syntactical analysis of the mentioned passages. The purpose is to clarify the importance of basing the theological interpretation in the grammar and the syntax, and not the other way round.
