The paper proposes the understanding of John 14,27 from different Jewish perspectives of the first century. His relationship with the texts that emerge from the synagogue stands out: targums and midrases; as well as the construct that the concept of “peace” presents in Qumran and in early rabbinic Judaism. The search for possible meanings in the ears of Jesus’ disciples will allow (a) broadening the hermeneutical perception of the text and (b) making projections to our society.
