This study critically analyzes the foundations of the practice of rebaptism within the context of Christian theology. The article examines modern arguments that justify rebaptism and categorizes them into four main groups: invalidity of the first baptism, public apostasy, doctrinal renewal, and personal initiative. After a thorough analysis, it concludes that none of these arguments have sufficient biblical-theological foundation to justify rebaptism. Finally, the article suggests a theological criterion for the exceptional practice of rebaptism in cases where a serious sin has compromised ecclesial credibility and offers the Lord’s Supper rite as an alternative in situations where rebaptism is commonly proposed.
