Abstract

The passage from 1 Timothy 2,8-15 has been used frequently as a Pauline instructionon worship in the church. In this context, these verses have been applied as universalnorms that prevent women from preaching, teaching or exercising positions of authorityin the church. In this paper, these Pauline instructions will be explained inlight of the linguistic and thematic parallels that this passage has with 1 Peter 3,1-6 todetermine if they really address worship in the church or if they have a more limitedapplication.
