The passage from 1 Timothy 2,8-15 has been used frequently as a Pauline instruction
on worship in the church. In this context, these verses have been applied as universal
norms that prevent women from preaching, teaching or exercising positions of authority
in the church. In this paper, these Pauline instructions will be explained in
light of the linguistic and thematic parallels that this passage has with 1 Peter 3,1-6 to
determine if they really address worship in the church or if they have a more limited
application.
