The development of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) in South America, and
particularly in Uruguay, took place within the broader context of a global missionary
expansion promoted during the late nineteenth century. In this process, a number of
individuals played a decisive role in the establishment and consolidation of the first
communities of faith. Among them, Luisa Ernst stands out as a remarkable figure
whose life combined religious commitment, community leadership, and notable entrepreneurial
abilities. This study seeks to reconstruct her life trajectory and to examine her contribution to the early establishment of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in
Uruguay and to the development of the Adventist work in South America.
