Is porneia an exclusive sin?
Keywords:
Sexual immorality — Diatribe — Corinthians — Paul — HamartiologyAbstract
The purpose of this study is to discuss the concept of sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 6,18 from a hamartiological perspective. The verse in question presents a
contrasting structure. The first affirmation states that sins occur outside the body;
however, the following sentence declares porneia against the body. Interpreters have
taken different positions in order to avoid attributing an apparent contradiction to
Paul. This study from the macro (literary genre) to the micro (syntactic analysis of
v. 18) will try to provide a possible interpretation for the antithesis and finally offer a
viable translation for 1 Corinthians 6,18.
