Testigo de Jehová perseguidos
Abstract
ResumenLos Testigos de Jehová son, dentro del grupo de cultos no católicos, uno de los másresistidos. En Argentina no hay una ley que se refiera a sus creencias y prácticas, demodo que es la jurisprudencia la encargada de atender cada caso particular. Los fielesde esta religión se niegan a portar armas y a realizar el servicio militar obligatorio; losniños en edad escolar y maestros no veneran símbolos patrios; en general, se niegana transfundirse sangre. Todos ellos se amparan en la libertad de conciencia y religión.Este artículo analiza brevemente las normas de libertad religiosa que amparan a losTestigos de Jehová, algunos fallos ejemplares, las luchas por conseguir la legalidad desu religión, y la batalla continua contra la discriminación y los prejuicios que debierony aún deben enfrentar.AbstractAmong the non-Catholic denominations, the Jehovah’s Witnesses are one of themost resisted. There is no law in Argentina specifically referred to their beliefs andpractices. Therefore, the judges have to deal with each particular case, thou producinglegal precedents. The Jehovah’s Witnesses refuse to bear arms and serve the compulsorymilitary service; their schoolchildren and teachers do not reverence the patrioticsymbols; in general, they refuse to receive blood transfusions. All of them seek protectionin the freedom of conscience and religion.This article briefly analyzes the religious freedom statutes that protect the Jehovah’sWitnesses, some exemplary judicial decisions, and the constant battle against discriminationand prejudices that they had and still have to face.Downloads
